Please forgive me if
my sentences are sloppy, I'm so very tired. Spent the whole evening at
the barn, first time in a week and first day out of sick bed, so I can barely
hold my head up.
The weather was horrid tonight. Storming, strong winds and raining hard &
heavy. Shetan was so mad at me for not being out there all week that he wouldn't
come in, nor would he let anyone else come near the barn. Shetan twirled his
head and the entire herd of 4 took off down the hill to the pasture in this
horrible weather.
I had to walk all the way down the hill and out into the pasture, in the pouring
rain, in the dark. When they saw me they all came a running. Each one
sniffed my hands to see if I had any peppermints. When they realized I didn't have any they started to follow me back to the barn
for dinner.
That is, UNTIL, His Royal Highness, Shetan, twirled his cute head. He must have given
a silent order
because everybody at once took off in the opposite direction of the barn. The
little Sh*t!!!!
I knew why he did it. He was mad at me and this was his way of letting me know!
Shetan figured if he had to be without my company for a week, this was my
punishment! Shame on me!I headed all
the way across the pasture, in the pouring rain, to the edge of the woods where
it looked like only His Highness,
Shetan, was standing under a tree for shelter,
Once there I noticed he allowed Rockin Rita to join him (but, poor Eclipse and
Wulffe were forced to
stand out in the pouring rain). There were other trees but I couldn't
convince either Eclipse or Wulffe to move from their spot on the other side of
Shetan's tree. Guess they were
following orders.
I quietly & in a loving voice explained to Shetan that I'd been sick and that was why I hadn't been
there all week; that I missed him and promised to make an effort to come more often.
When I finished, would you believe he leaned down and nuzzled my cheek. He's
such a trip!. Then, Rockin Rita came over and nuzzled me too. As cold and
wet as I was my heart filled up with warmth, if only for a few seconds. Soon as
Rockin Rita sniffed my hands (for peppermints) Shetan swung his head, gave her a nasty look and
she immediately backed up.
For a horse that is so cute, Shetan is a real tyrant! I'm just relieved I
had on my waterproof coat & leather chaps, because the rain and wind were brutal and I didn't
need to get sick again.
I kept my
promise and went back out to the barn the next night. It was still
pouring cats & dogs! Shetan tried not to let
anyone into the barn but he was nicer about it this time and everyone came in.
That or they were fed up over last night's antics and refused to listen to
Shetan tonight. Guess
Shetan had to pretend to still be tough. LOL!!!
Even though I sure slept like a baby last night I was determined; I
was NOT
GOING OUT IN THE POURING RAIN AGAIN
for any reason tonight.
Shetan
was still a character; never a dull moment with him. After he
finished eating he opened Wulffe's stall
door, (the door has no latch on it, so Shetan stretches his head over the
Dutch door and swings it
open with his chin). Then he strolled in and chased Wulffe out of the stall
outside into the pouring rain. As if that wasn't enough he walked outside and made sure Wulffe
couldn't stop and drink water from the trough,
Meanwhile, Eclipse ("Mr. Heart of
Gold") was still inside the barn getting peppermints from me while
Shetan was
out in the
pouring rain acting like a fool. When he realized this, Shetan turned
around, came back in the barn and DIDN'T he silently order Eclipse to go
outside in the rain and stand guard so Wulffe couldn't come back up into the
barn. Although I know Eclipse wants to be Shetan when he grows
up, I still couldn't believe my eyes!
I knew I shouldn't interfere, but I
couldn't help myself. I yelled at Eclipse ("Mr. Heart of Gold") (remember I had just been
stuffing his cute face with peppermints) and didn't Eclipse back off
of Wulffe. What a doll!
Not to be outdone, Her Highness, Rockin
Rita, the 2nd in Command, either on her own or under Shetan's orders, walked down
the hill and took over guarding Wulffe not letting him come back up to the barn.
What the heck was this? They're all tyrants! I have to figure a way for Shetan to bond with Wulffe. I
have to! This
is ridiculous and totally unacceptable.
Then again, I'm probably the reason Shetan
resents Wulffe! For years I would
take Wulffe out for my moonlight rides to the lake because Shetan didn't
want to go and he wouldn't let the other
horses go. Wulffe was/is the only horse who when it comes to
riding, will ignore Shetan's bullying tactics. I think I've just
answered my own question. Shetan is NEVER going to warm up to Wulffman, NEVER!
How can I complain? Don't I wish all my
troubles were this complicated.
